The Four Enquiries:
1. Is this murder necessary?
2. Have you given your target every last chance to redeem themselves?
3. What innocent person might suffer by your actions?
4. Will this deletion improve the life of others?
This story follows 3 main characters, Cliff, Gemma, and Doria, as they come together at the McMaster’s Conservatory for the Applied Arts. From the name of it, you would never guess that this is a school for would-be “deletists” (the McM term for murderers). At McMaster’s, students are taught the best ways to handle situations they might encounter and which weapons would be best in those instances.
McMaster’s is a very private school. Its location is unknown to students (and possibly some faculty) and its existence is a secret to the general public. Classes are set up to empower students with the knowledge and skills to commit their approved “deletion.”
As you follow the main characters through each of their stories, you learn who they are planning to “delete” and their reasoning behind it. You also get a peek at some of the classes offered.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Notes: Gemma was my favorite character. I really liked her story and thought it was told well with just the right amount of suspense.
I would recommend this as a good, medium-paced suspense story. Even with the main topic being “deletion”/murder, the book wasn’t as gory and detailed as I was afraid it might be. The focus is more on the characters and their situations. It has likeable characters (except Jud 😂) with diverse backgrounds.
